August 2000

Vivian Quarry in North Wales was the venue for a training dive held on Sunday 20th August. Surprisingly there were relatively few divers from other clubs considering nearby Dorothea was closed. The quarry has a maximum depth of 18m with a training platfrom at 6m.

I am told that there are very few fish left now that the locals have fished out most of the 200 that were introduced last year!

Rick leading Diane to her first Open-Water dive. There were more spectators than divers, possibly due to the good weather and I found myself answering questions such as "How long can they stay down there?" and "Isn't it cold ?." After discussing the pleasures of diving in a quarry it was time to kit up and get on with the business of completing drills. Jen, Rick, Ju and Neil had all turned up to take in Carol, Marion, Diane, Dave, Malcolm and Richard who are all working their way through Club Diver drills.

Linda, Helen and Nora were on hand to offer support and help carry equipment.

It was a successful days training with Carol, Richard and Malcolm all passing their Club diver assessment and Diane completing her first open-water dive. It was also my first attempt at organising a dive.
